November 16, 2009
On November 18, the Government of Castilla - La Mancha will announce the Plan strategic of livestock, fitted with a more comprehensive, in a meeting with the industry approach, to analyse the current situation and possible solutions. A specific table to the dairy cattle will then be convened. This was confirmed by the Minister of agriculture and Rural Development, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, in a meeting with entities of the dairy sector in Castile - La Mancha, Africama, agri-food cooperatives in Castile - La Mancha, Asaja, Coag-Ir, Prolec and Upa in which presented you the economic difficulties experienced by the dairy beef. For farmers, prices that the industry pay per liter of milk are the main problem for producers. These prices - in the opinion of cooperatives and associations - are low and do not cover the costs of production of livestock farming. The spokesman of the Board, Martínez Guijarro, promised to work with farmers, industries and distribution, in order to consolidate a viable and competitive livestock activity. To this end, the spokesman for the junta de Castilla - La Mancha, opted for the concentration of supply, so that farmers are grouped around a cooperative to sell the product directly. Furthermore, Martínez Guijarro, urged the need to improve the marketing of the sector, to provide products dairy to the final consumer.
Also, the Minister of agriculture and development issued the new line of aid included in the programme of Rural development - already submitted to the European Union - and which refers to the inclusion of the breeders of milk in the line of improvement of farms; one of the most important of the Rural Development Programme, vetoed so far for these farmers. From now on, milk farmers also are eligible to the improvement of farms line when the European Commission approve the Rural Development Plan. Martínez Guijarro highlighted the need to revalue the milk produced in Castile - La Mancha, Spain. There is a program created by the Ministry of the environment, Rural and marine, whose philosophy shares the regional government, under the name 'Letter Q'. With this program, will be milk, in addition to identifying the product as Spanish milk guarantee of traceability. "We are committed to working in this line with the Ministry and thanks to this program we will know where it comes from the milk, thus avoiding the problem we have now of low prices to the farmer, primarily because it milk from France at very low prices"explained the Minister of agriculture and Rural development.
