The Marm allocated more than 300 million euros in policies of the water in the basin of Duero

The Ministry of the environment, and medium Rural and Marine Affairs (Marm) will invest more than 341 million euros in policies of the water in the Duero basin, in the year 2010. For the second consecutive year, public investment from the central Government in this area will exceed 300 million euros in the Duero basin. The operation will be managed by the del Duero hydrographic Confederation and financed with own funds of the Agency's basin, the General direction of the water and the water State Society of the Duero. Main objectives, the intervention of the Marm in the area strives to ensure the development of the project of transformation and modernization of irrigation in Castilla y León optimising water consumption, wastewater treatment, the supply to the populationas well as improving the quality and the ecological status of water bodies and their associated ecosystems.
Of the total of the intended budget, almost 107 million euros will be used for modernization or implementation of new irrigation, 101% more than in the current year. This investment, the basin agency devoted more than were 84.8 million EUR in the lower channel of the Payuelos (León), once finished the works of the high channel. On the other hand, about 62.6 million euros in undertaking various works aimed at the improvement of the wastewater treatment will be used. In this section, include the 51.2 million euros that will be used for a series of works included in the National Plan for water quality 2007-2015, in different parts of the basin.
On concept of supply, will be allocated EUR 37.7 million, 34.2 per cent more than in the previous year. More than 27 million EUR will be used in the province of Segovia in the regulation of the Eresma River as an alternative to the construction of the dam of Bernardos. The implementation of large-scale hydraulic infrastructure, budgeted more than 26.5 million euros, of which 21.3 million will be directed to the works of the dam of Castrovido (Burgos). The budget in the Duero basin water policy calls for other items: approximately 21.7 million for control and surveillance of the quality and quantity of this resource in surface water and groundwater; some 9.2 million (115% more than in the current year on improving the security of the dams in the basin and finally, some 7.7 million of euros in defence and prevention of avenues and floods.) This line, include the 3.5 million to be applied to the introduction of the automatic system of hydrological information (S.A.I.H.). It's a basic information system that captures, processes, and disseminates data linked to basin hydrological and hydraulic status in real time.
The budgets of the CHD also provide some 30 million euros in current expenditure, basically costs staff and purchase of goods and services, which will represent a reduction of 2% over the previous year.
