October 19, 2009
For the first time since more than 20 years, on 20 and 21 November held an agrarian strike in a demonstration in the capital of the country. The three unions agricultural (Asaja, Upa and Coag) with the support of the agricultural cooperatives, have revealed the keys of this protest that seconded the Asturian unions, to draw attention to the "absolute ruin" of the sector. Farmers consider inadequate the increase in the price of milk, which has recovered an average of two cents. In view of the national agricultural leaders Miguel López and Lorenzo Ramos (Coag) and Pedro cheap (Asaja), pull the milk is not the ideal solution, although given the crisis in the sector is the only option for farmers in demand helps administrations. For its part, the President of Asaja in Asturias, Ramón Artime, argues that the situation is desperate but it may worsen. Everything will depend on the decisions taken in the Council of Ministers, which takes place in Brussels.
From the Asturian Principality, Minister of Rural Environment, Aurelio Martín, stated respect for the dicisiones to take sector and admitted that both Madrid and Asturias they concerned the actions of the European Commission for the field. "We advocate that the European Union provides funds, not that put them States". For Martin "renationalise" the agricultural policy is not the solution, as it leaves the responsibility in the hands of the Governments of each State. The Adviser demands action "in the short term". In the midst of the crisis in the rural environment, unions predict that rising prices is hardly relevant to remedy the situation "limit" that has reached the sector, with some 12,000 holders of herds among those dedicated to milk and meat.
