COAG regrets that only 0.6% of the beekeepers hires drought and Enesa fire insurance
October 13, 2009
The Coordinator of organizations of farmers and cattlemen (Coag) regrets that Enesa has not assumed the revision of the insurance of drought, fire, pouring inundación-lluvia, huracanado wind and heat stroke in bee-keeping, despite the collaboration offered from the sector in 2009. "After four years of drought and fire insurance is a resounding failure." The low demand of bee-keepers, only 0.6% hired him in 2008, it is necessary a new design and prices more adapted to the reality of the sector ", has argued the person in charge of the beekeeping sector of Coag, Jose Luis González." Since Coag, emphasis in this insurance retains the same deficiencies since its inception five years ago, despite the promises and the commitment of the Administration with the bee-keepers. As for the coverage of the risk by drought, the cost is high in addition to the problems generated by the precision of this incident, a climatic adversity more frequent and more incisive apicultural production. When used only the method of assessment of the vegetation index, based on satellite images processed by the remote sensing laboratory of the Department of applied physics at the University of Valladolid, obviate the complementary information provided by the network of automated weather stations. This reduces its credibility and encourages not the insurance contracts.
With regard to the risk of pouring inundación-lluvia, huracanado wind and heat stroke, the only change from Enesa is the reduction of the risk and, therefore, the reduction of the insurance premium. In this case, the warranty period with a smaller percentage in the value of compensation of each period is subdivided into three sections. In practice, the format of such insurance, away from the demands and needs of the professional beekeepers requiring a security to guarantee compensation for an average of production yield per hive in case of sinister remains unchanged.
The Coag entity will be sent to the Ministry of environment, Rural and marine (Marm) the malaise in the sector by having lost, once again, the opportunity to obtain insurance to manage risk and cover natural disasters in beekeeping.
