Spain rejects the possible grant of up to € 15,000 per farm proposed by the EU
October 13, 2009
The Ministry of the environment, Rural and Marine Affairs (Marm) has rejected the possibility that Member States can support to productions in crisis land with aid of up to 15,000 euros farm until the end of 2010, as proposed by the European Commissioner, Marian Fischer. From the Ministry directed by Elena Espinosa is considered that this measure will represent a further step towards the renationalisation of the common agricultural policy (Cap). Due to the crisis in the milk in the majority of member countries, the Commissioner announced a series of proposals to support the sector. In terms of markets, these measures included aid for the storage, intervention or export of milk powder and butter. In addition, be valued possible subsidies, by each State, to certain sectors in the framework of the exceptional support measures agreed by Brussels to deal with the crisis. Since 2007, in the agricultural field, there was already the grant of up to 7,500 euros per farm until December 31, 2010. The Community proposal, which should soon adopted by the Committee, includes the possible grant of 15,000 euros for the Member States, excluding de minimis aid which had been granted to date. In view of the Secretary of State for environment, Jose Puxeu, the implementation of this subsidy moved a community problem to each of the Member States, instead of looking for joint outings for the entire European Union. The Central Government argues that if a State could obtain aid of up to 15,000 euros for exploitation it would break the single market and promote the risk for farmers to compete in the same markets with different weapons.
