While increasing imports of onions and potatoes during the first half

During the first half of the year 2009, Spanish onion and potato imports increased a % became and 7.59%, respectively. Together, they totalled 64.906 and 472.230 tonnes of onions and potatoes from foreign trade, according to data provided by the Directorate General of customs. By countries, mainly imported Carpenter tons of onion (+ 59%) and potato (+ 8%) French 346.495, and 14.349 tons of onion (+ 444%) and potato (+ 22%) of the Netherlands 50.125. Both countries are characterized by the existence of strong sectoral economic organizations.
In contrast, there was a fall in exports of onion (11.95%) and potato (14%) Spanish, which was a total of 101.780 and 139.893 tons, respectively. In addition, the collapse of prices of production in Spain, put in evidence, once again, the need of economically organize the production and trade in origin of these two commodities in Spanish horticulture, according to the analysis made by Fepex.
