The Marm allocates 159,5 million euros to agricultural programmes and rural development

Within the framework of the last sectoral Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development, held on 13 October and chaired by the head of the
Ministry of environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (Marm), Elena Espinosa, was agreed the territorialisation of 159.547.206 eurosof which 87.517.102 correspond to the agricultural and livestock and 71.906.217 programmes for the sustainable development of the Rural Environment lines. Also been allocating aid to alleviate the damage in agricultural and livestock productions, caused by forest fires that have occurred in the Canary Islands, during the last days of July and first of the month of August 2007, worth 123.887 euros.
Agricultural and livestock programs
For agricultural and livestock programmes, the Marm has distributed a total of 87.517.102 euros, which are intended to finance various agricultural activities for the improvement of the sector of fruit Peel and the carob, for the promotion of new technologiesrenewal and rational use of agricultural means of production, for the fight and prevention of pests, for the distribution of funds to deal with plant health damage caused by floods in the Valencian Community and the quality of plant varieties and certification of the reproductive material.
That amount is also intended to finance farming activities to other plans of management and competitiveness of the livestock sectors such as the Spatial Plan of the meat sector, for the comprehensive National Plan of by-products, for the improvement of the quality and traceability of livestock sectors, the promotion of the associationism for livestock health defense, State programs of control and eradication of animal diseases and for local breeds in danger of extinction.
Sustainable development of rural areas
The territorial distribution of funds to the lines of the Directorate-General for sustainable development of the Rural Environment, adopted by the sectoral Conference has been 71.906.217 euros. Of this amount, the autonomous communities will receive for the promotion and diversification of the rural economy, 42.591.528 euros. The distribution corresponds to the contribution of the Marm for measures of quality of life and diversification (axis 3) and focus Leader (axis 4) programmes of Rural Development 2007 / 2103.
In line with measures of rural development of the axis 2 and forest activities in agricultural land, shall be apportioned the amount of 28.987.697 euros, of which 6.481.946 EUR are aimed at disadvantaged areas, 22.079.553 euros to agri-environmental measures and 426.198 euros for first afforestation and agroforestry systems.
The Minister Elena Espinosa chaired the sectoral Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development, which was attended by the directors of the branch of the autonomous communities.
