Spain is the 3er country of the EU in production of meat of chicken and the 5º in census and production of meat of beef

The Ministry of Agriculture, Feeding and Environingingment has published the economic data of the sectors of the meats of beef, ovino, goat milking rooms and corresponding birds to the year 2013. Satisfied these indicators, Spain situates like third country of the EU in production of meat of chicken, chamber in production of meat of bird, in fifth in census and production of meat of beef and second in census of sheep and goats.
These data include the main magnitudes in relation with the production, trade, consumption, value of the production and prices of these productions graziers, so much to national level like community and world-wide.
Sector avícola of Meat
The results ascertain the importance of the sector avícola of meat like one of the main economic motors of the livestock Spanish, with a value of the production estimated in 2.333 million euros, what supposes 5,3% of the Agricultural Final Production. His importance, besides, roots in his condition of basic food and economic and healthy source of protein. It is the second more consumed meat, only by behind the meat of pig, and the first if it considers the consumption in fresco.
Regarding the production, during 2013 was of 1.369.628 tonnes of meat, what supposes a light descent of 1,06% regarding the previous year. Of this total, 82% (1.123.095 tonnes) correspond to the production of meat of chicken.
Spain keeps like the third community producer of chicken, with a production that rises to 11,6% of the total produced in the EU, and like the fourth producer of meat of bird, with a production of 11,1% of the total produced in the EU.
Although the sector keeps his importing position, continues reinforcing the tendency to increase his presence in the outside, evidenciada during the last years. Like this, the exports to other countries of the EU have increased near of 11% and the exports to third countries around 2,19%. Regarding the pertinent imports of countries of the EU, have increased 1,91%, whereas the pertinent of third countries have descended slightly, around 0,87%.
Meat of Beef
In the sector of the meat of beef can speak of stability during the past year, so much in number of exploitations as in census of animals with regard to the figure of 2012. In 2013 the number of exploitations registered has been of 155.514 and the census of 5.689.000 heads.
Regarding the production, keeps the slightly downward tendency of the last years, with a total number of heads sacrificed of 2.219.731 and a production of 581.837 tonnes. In any case, Spain keeps the fifth position of the EU so much in census, as in production of meat of beef.
On the other hand, regarding the prices, 2013 has been a positive year, since they have kept prices to the significantly high producers and the cost of the raw materials has situated in inferior levels to the ones of the previous year, by what the margins has been upper.
Meat of Ovino and Caprino
The sector of the meat of ovino and goat milking rooms of meat represents near of 5% of the final production grazier, with a turnover of almost 790 million euros during the year 2013. In addition to his economic importance, this sector contributes big profits so much environingingmental, by his character essentially extensivo, as social, because of his links with the rural zones of the country.
Observes stability with positive tendency in the number of exploitations so much of ovino, that have increased in 2,7%, as especially of goat milking rooms, with an increase of 13,6%. Regarding the censuses, according to the source of data of the Integral System of Trazabilidad Animal (Sitran), there is stability in the number of ovinos, whereas it has produced an increase of 7,3% in the number of effective goat milking roomss, what breaks the negative tendency of reduction of censuses of the last years. Spain continues being the second country of the EU with greater number of sheep and goats, by behind United Kingdom and Greece, respectively.
