Irta And Idiap reinforce his cooperation in matter agroalimentaria

The general director of the Institute of Investigation Agropecuaria of Panama, Dr. Paulo Ducasa, and the one of the Irta, Dr. Josep M. Monfort, have signed an agreement of bilateral collaboration in the field agroalimentario to reinforce the already existent cooperation between the two institutes and implement bilateral actions.

In concrete have agreed a group of actions that comprise several thematic agroalimentarias, between which stand out:

• Trazabilidad Molecular of the Meat: The aim is the one to endow to Panama of innovative technological capacity and own, with the set up of a laboratory of trazabilidad molecular based in microsatélites of DNA and other affine technologies, to be able to identify and certify the identity of the livestock produced in Panama according to the international standards and contribute like this to a greater competitiveness of the production grazier.
• Irrigation: The purpose of the Work in this field is the advice of the Irta to endow to the Idiap of a Unit of Irrigation and able own Drainage to satisfy the demands of the agricultural sector Panamanian in the field of the efficient use of the water, the technologies advanced of agricultural irrigation, etc.
• Poscosecha: Both Institutes will work in the strengthening of the sector of the poscosecha of fruit and vegetables in Panama in the fields of the chain of the cold, the third, fourth and fifth range, the pathologies in poscosecha, etc.
• Biofuels: The Irta will cater technological services for the tuned of pilot plants of biofuels (biodiésel and bioetanol) in Panama like an alternative of agricultural production.
• Learning: Both entities will prepare and will develop jointly a formative diagram to level doctoral in Catalonia together with the Catalan universities that collaborate with the Irta for the learning of Panamanian doctors.
• Hydrological management of basins: The Irta and the Idiap will work jointly in the management of the interfases forestry/cultivate agroforestryal to tropical level, with the aim to achieve a correct development paisajístico and of the basins, adapted to a correct exploitation agroforestryal.
