The Coordinator of Organisations of Agriculturalists and Graziers (COAG) consider unacceptable that so much the Board of Andalucia like the Board of Extremadura forbid the prescription of the use of the veterinary product Chek Mite, since this administrative decision puts in danger the sanitary ware and productive feasibility of the exploitations apícolas situated in both regions. This would be due to the scarce availability in all the EU of veterinary treatments authorised that they are really effective in the control and fight against the Varroa.
To combat effectively in the colonies of bees to the destructive parasite Varroa, an acarus invasor that weakens the immune system of the bees and that it is one of the main managers of the high mortandad that suffers the cabin apícola in Spain, (that it reaches an average of the 25/30% annual in front of the 5/10% of mortandad natural), is necessary to have of veterinary medicines that have distinct active principles, being vital the rotation of molecules in the colonies of bees to avoid the apparition of resistances of this parasite to the treatments. The reduced availability of effective veterinary medicines in the market has caused that the exploitations apícolas find in a critical sanitary ware situation and that this grave problem have purchased a dimension of national emergency that has to be tackled with pragmatism from the MAGRAMA and the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Sanitary ware Products (AEMPS).

Thus, COAG has requested to the Spanish Agency of the Medicine and to the Ministry of Agriculture that concede of immediate form a permission of administration and use of the Chek Mite in favour of the sector apícola in base to the article 28 of the Royal decree 1246/2008, of 18 July, by which regulates the procedure of permission, register and farmacovigilancia of the veterinary medicines manufactured of industrial form, relative to the exceptional permissions of commercialisation of veterinary medicines authorised in another Been member. “We need a similar permission to the conceded to this product acaricida in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 by part of the Spanish Agency of the Medicine, avoiding that they are the CC.AA. Those who allow or no the exceptional veterinary prescription”, has aimed Jose Luis González, manager of the sector apícola of COAG, to what has added: “For the time being, a big part of the professional beekeepers in our country have in the Chek Mite the only sanitary ware alternative possible to control and struggle effectively against the Varroa”.
